OUR HIKE for bone Marrow Disease September 6, 2008 Cty. Hwy. W, Phillips In 2006, Patty Laatsch and Robin Grapa backpacked for 9 months across America to raise awareness and funds for bone marrow disease. This trek was titled "Our Hike across America for Bone Marrow Disease." After completing their nearly 5,000-mile trek, Robin and Patty wanted to keep going, but had to find something a little closer to home....So the "Our Hike for Bone Marrow Disease" continues! Robin and Patty would love for you to join them in a 7 mile walk through the woodlands of northern Wisconsin! Pre-registration begins July 1st 2008 to August 31st, 2008. The cost for pre-registration is $25.00. As of September 1st, 2008 up to the day of the event on September 6th, 2008 the cost is $35.00. There will be meat raffles, plus basket and other raffles. Proceeds will benefit bone marrow disease. 715-332-5320 A COUNTRY AFTERNOON September 13, 2008 Knox Creek Heritage Center , Brantwood 1-4 p.m. Annual meeting at noon; Baking contest and auction of entries: cake, cookies and bars, yeast breads, pies, other breads eg. banana, etc.; Bread sale including homemade bread, Finnish style, multi-grain, cardamon braids and cinnamon rolls; Cookout; Sale of crafts and other items including homemade soaps, jellies, jams and produce; demonstration by Crazy Hearts Quilt club and raffle of donated quilted items; live music provided by local musicians, food and raffle. Craft vendors and demonstrators are welcome at no charge. For more information about the event, visit www.ladysmithchamber.com or call (800) 535-RUSK. 15th Annual FALL HARVEST FESTIVAL September 27, 2008 Downtown Phillips 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Arts & crafts, sidewalk sales, farmers market, pumpkin decorating for the kids at 11 a.m. at the corner of Lake Avenue and Chestnut street (free pumpkins to the first 100 kids), family movie at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. ($1 charge) at Cinema North, music by the Elk River String Band in front of The 5 Senses, Leinenkugel's beer tasting at Meister's Bar & Grill from 1-4 p.m., "Taste of Fall" food booths offering a large variety of items including cream puffs by Pleasant View, kolache by the Ladies VFW auxiliary, and caramel apples by Edge Youth Ministries. The Phillips Lions Club will be selling brats, hamburgers, hot dogs, fried specialties, and refreshments on Hwy. 13 in front of the VFW Hall, across from the chamber building.
